BDS (Broadcast Data System)

Question: What is BDS and why do you need it? 

 

Answer:  BDS stands for Broadcast Data System.  It's the industry standard for tracking radio play of a song or artist.  BDS detects and records every time one of its registered songs are played on any of the 1,200 radio stations in over 130 U.S. markets.

BARCODES... WHAT ARE THEY AND WHY YOU NEED THEM? 

What is a barcode?  It's a printed horizontal strip of vertical bars used to identify your product whether it's a cd, tape, dvd, vhs, 12 inch, t-shirt, or whatever you sell.

 Why you need a barcode.  Without a barcode, no one but you will know how many of your product has been sold.  Attaching a barcode to your product works similar to the BDS system.  If you register your barcode with Neilson Sound Scan, once you have registered with the Uniform Code Council, anyone with a membership can view your product sells.  Example: Major labels log on to check daily sales.  If they have never heard of your product they will investigate to see who you are.
